There is an old saying respecting summary judgment–“The testimony of a single scoundrel may outweigh that of 40 bishops.” (Often the 40 bishops are swearing on 40 bibles). Two students asked me why 40 bishops. Apparently the phrase has come up in other classes, speaking of “swearing in front of 40 bishops.”
