To Patrick’s comprehensive bibliography, I’d add Mary Ann Glendon’s book on the U.N. Declaration, “A World Made New”; Paolo Carozza’s “Subsidiarity as a Structural Principle of International Human Rights Law”; and Joseph Weiler’s “Thou Shalt Not Oppress a Stranger.”
