Best Commercial Ever
Although it’s not a new commercial, my favorite commercial of all-time just came on while I was watching Pardon the Interruption:
The commercial opens with cheesy music in the background, and with a guy and a girl saying cutesy things to each other and making out.
As the commercial goes on, the couple continue to make out, while the camera pans down, revealing that the guy is wearing an Ohio State shirt, and the girl is wearing a Michigan shirt.
The commercial ends with the following text on screen:
“Without sports this wouldn’t be so disgusting.”
Amen. Go Blue.

I think ESPN and its programming is pretty obviously “product”.
You can seee the ad here if you poke around a bit.

I like the “Never Graduate” ad with the man and woman on the blind date. He – the Ohio State grad – is (a) dorky, (b) a veterinarian, and (c) dumb enough to eject himself from a moving car. This is evidence that in fact Michigan alumni control the media.

That’s at least a year or two old, but it’s still great. I guess they trot it out for the UM-OSU game each year, at minimum.
It’s selling a product in the sense that it’s selling “sports” as something fun and universal, and where do you go to watch sports ….?
Go Blue!

There’s only one true rivalry, and that involves The Game. And there’s only one school with a fight song written by Cole Porter: http://www.yale.edu/yaleband/ypmb/music/yale.htm.

But what if it’s not a commercial. After all, it’s not selling a product.
