The Optimal Degree of Disorder for Efficiency

If you missed New York Magazine’s “Office Life” issue, you missed this article about the new study of leadership in the field of organizational psychology. (It reminded me of the work of the Barbados Group.) There’s this illustrated guide to solving thorny workplace problems. And finally, you can take a peek into offices of the successful here. The first office featured is that of NYU Law prof. Lewis Kornhauser. “There’s an optimal degree of disorder for efficiency,” says Kornhauser, “though I think I might have passed it.” You can also check out Martha Stewart’s cool, modern look, Michael Bloomberg’s mass of open cubicles, and Paul Rudnick’s “Gothic Revival from various godforsaken countries.”
