Starting tomorrow, the University of Illinois College of Law is putting on a symposium in memory of the late Larry Ribstein, the Mildred Van Voorhis Jones Chair, Associate Dean for Research, and Co-Director of the Illinois Business Law and Policy Program. Grant Hayden and I have just placed an essay on Ribstein’s scholarly legacy with the Virginia Law and Business Review. We argue that progressive corporate law scholars can gain important insights from Ribstein’s work, particularly in his criticisms of the “nexus of contracts” theory and capitalistic cronyism.
