Shocked and saddened to learn of the murders of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner.
I was amazed to learn Reiner’s first 9 movies from 1984-1995: Spinal Tap; The Sure Thing; Stand By Me; Princess Bride; When Harry Met Sally. . .; Misery; A Few Good Men; North; and The American President. North is a legendary bomb. The others are great (if not the greatest) films in multiple genres: Mockumentary; parody; courtroom drama; coming-of-age story; horror; and, of course, rom-com.
In tribute, here is a post I wrote in December 2021, asking whether WHMS is a Christmas movie and whether it is a Jewish movie. One more piece on this: Reiner met and fell in love with Singer while working on WHMS. That new relationship caused him to change the ending, having Harry and Sally end up together. Imagine if he directed Casablanca . . .
