I wanted to acknowledge Bill’s death yesterday. He was extraordinarily generous in inviting me to present three times at his NYU workshop. The first time was when I was a junior scholar, and I found the feedback and interaction really useful in learning how to write my first book. The second time was for my Bushrod Washington project. And then he had me back a second time for that book online during the pandemic. I’m sure that biography would not have won a prize without his help. An many others can say the same about their work.
