Following on Gerard’s post:
Promoting his 2020 book on Newt Gingrich, historian Julian Zelizer discussed Gingrich (and other Republicans) making speeches to an empty House chamber in the middle of the night, knowing that C-SPAN would telecast them with one camera pointed at the speaker, not revealing to viewers that Gingrich and co. were speaking to an empty room. Arguably, Gingrich and the destructive politics he has wrought do not happen (at least not in the same way) without C-SPAN.
I have long been on the pro-cameras side for SCOTUS because I believed the Court was less susceptible to the grandstanding that has destroyed Congress. Listening to some livestreamed arguments, I am not sure that is true.
